Activities Assistant, Carolyn S. Activities Assistant, Carolyn S.

I have worked as an activity assistant at the American Lutheran Home for 6 years. I feel my purpose here is to bring love and joy into the lives of our residents as I help them in the variety of activities we do here I enjoy spending quality time through one-on-one visits and encouraging those who want to take part in our Bell Choir or quilting project or scrap booking card making. I also enjoy seeing the smiles and toe-tapping as we have time together singing all the old time music as a group. What a rewarding position I am in!

I work as an activity assistant here at American Lutheran Homes. When I first came to work for ALH I began my employment in the housekeeping department and then moved into C.N.A. before settling in the activities department. Each position I was in was a different opportunity to connect with the resident on different levels. Activities, has given me the opportunity to know the resident on a more personable level and to share in the things that they enjoy doing. I am a caring, giving person by nature and ALH has given me every opportunity to fulfill that personal need and to be able to do that every day is why I look forward to going to work.

Our older generation built this country and we must never forget them. I volunteer because as a member of this society I owe these wonderful people comfort care. Many are lonely, some perhaps frightened and no doubt some sad knowing they will not be returning to their old way of life. The church directs us to be kind to others. This is something I am attempting to do. We can’t forget that there perhaps will be a day when we too will need such care. I’m doing today what some kind unknown soul will probably be doing for me just down the road.

My days at Stout ended after 30 years. I made up my mind I can’t sit home. Having one sister here I came everyday, but the Lord took her home. After a while my oldest sister came here and I knew that I would be here again every day so I decided to start volunteering. I love it. I get to meet so many wonderful people and many of them I already know. Best of all I have wonderful people to work with. They are great.

My employment with American Lutheran Home began in March of 1994 and with Autumn Village in April of 1997, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The people who live at ALH and AV are so appreciative of everything staff does for them. Their appreciation makes the staff feel good in return. Mine is not a job; it is a pleasure!

I have worked at American Lutheran Home for 15 years. I enjoy my job as administrative secretary and I appreciate the work of all the departments that work together to provide a high quality of life for our residents. All the staff that work here are very caring people and I enjoy working with them as well as interacting with the residents. There is a very homelike atmosphere here and it’s a pleasure to come to work every day.
