A History of Commitment - Wisconsin Senior Care
American Lutheran Homes was established in the late 1940’s by several area Lutheran churches that combined efforts and funds to serve the needs of the elderly in local communities. In 1948, American Lutheran Homes was started through the Evangelical Lutheran Church congregations in Hudson and Eau Claire. Soon following, in January 1949, American Lutheran Homes opened its first two homes in Eau Claire.

American Lutheran Homes responded to the increasing needs of seniors by opening its first nursing home in Mondovi in 1953 and later building the Menomonie facility in 1966.

The early 80’s brought an additional facility, Galloway Homes, a 32 unit subsidized apartment building, for  seniors and the disabled, on the south side of Menomonie.

The nineties ushered in an expansion of services: American Lutheran Homes purchased Buffalo Medical Center in Mondovi and moved all nursing home operations to the new building. The Menomonie facility found itself gaining a new neighbor, Autumn Village, a 32 unit Residential Care Apartment Complex assisted living facility.

In 2007, Autumn Village Assisted Living Community celebrated its tenth anniversary and unveiled plans to expand the community to 40 apartments. This brings us to today where the mission of American Lutheran Homes remains the same “Quality Care. Christian Atmosphere.”

Nursing Home Mission
In response to the Great Commission of our Lord, we endeavor to share God’s love in word and deed. We attempt to provide a Christian atmosphere which, combined with supportive services such as pastoral care, enhances the lives of all those who are connected with it. In our ministry, we encourage both those we serve and our employees to recognize their infinite worth and to grow to reach their highest potential as God’s children.

In furtherance of this purpose, we desire to establish quality care in a Christian atmosphere by:
• Providing the highest possible quality of physical, mental, and spiritual care for those entrusted to us;
• Broadening the interest and activities of those in our care through programs and volunteer assistance;
• Involving our corporate Congregations; and
• Assuming a position of leadership in the field of geriatrics by extending our ministry beyond nursing homes through the creation of programs to serve the needs of seniors in our communities.

It is the policy of American Lutheran Homes, Autumn Village, and Galloway Homes to admit, treat, and serve all residents/clients and visitors without regard to age, race, color, national origin, sex, religion or disability.

American Lutheran Homes is managed by Grace Lutheran Foundation. For more information go to www.graceluthfound.com.
